Understanding Vendor Offer Statuses
What each vendor response means
Vendors can use different offer statuses to keep agents informed about where they stand in the decision-making process.
Each status provides a clear indication of whether they are ready to proceed, require more time, or have chosen not to move forward. These responses help manage buyer expectations and assist agents in determining the appropriate next steps.
Pending
"We’re still reviewing this offer and haven’t made a decision yet."
The offer is under consideration, but no action has been taken. The vendor may be waiting on further information, seeking advice, or simply needs more time before making a decision.
Declined
"We’ve reviewed this offer and decided not to proceed with it."
The vendor has formally rejected the offer. This may be due to the offer price, specific conditions, or other terms that do not align with their expectations or requirements.
Accepted
"We’re happy with the offer and would like to proceed."
The vendor has accepted the offer, subject to contract. They are satisfied with the terms and are ready to move forward with the sale process, including legal, financial, and administrative steps.
Accept in Principle
"We’re open to this offer, but a few things still need to be confirmed."
The vendor is generally supportive of the offer but has not given full approval yet. This status is used when the offer is likely to be accepted, but certain aspects such as finance, legal advice, or contract conditions still need to be clarified.
