Fixed Camera Auction Streaming Guide
What to Know Before Streaming Auctions with Third-Party Tools
For agencies looking to live stream their property auctions, Auctions Live offers a reliable, fully supported mobile broadcaster app. However, we also recognise that some offices may prefer a more permanent setup using fixed cameras in their auction rooms.
While this approach can work well, it involves third-party software and custom hardware arrangements outside the scope of Auctions Live’s support. Here’s what you need to know if you're considering this option.
Using Fixed Cameras and Third-Party Software
It’s entirely possible to live stream your auctions using external programs such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) or vMix.
However, it’s important to understand that Auctions Live provides limited support or training for these third-party tools. Any installation, setup, or troubleshooting will be your agency’s responsibility.
That said, we do offer a custom presentation layer that can be integrated into your streaming setup. This optional add-on provides a richer viewer experience by overlaying relevant auction details onto the video feed. Many offices find this enhances professionalism and engagement during online broadcasts.
What You'll Need
If you decide to go ahead with a fixed camera streaming setup, here are the essential components:
- Streaming Software
You’ll need a program that can broadcast a live feed:- OBS - Free and open-source, widely used for live events.
- vMix - A paid, feature-rich option with advanced production tools.
- Computer or Laptop
A capable machine is crucial to manage your stream without glitches:- Minimum 16GB of RAM
- Dedicated GPU for video processing
- Hardwired internet connection is recommended
- Ensure compatibility with your chosen software
- Camera
- Should support USB output
- Minimum resolution of 1080p
- Position carefully for optimal coverage of the auctioneer
- External Microphone (if needed)
- If your camera is positioned too far away or at an awkward height, using an external microphone placed near the auctioneer will help capture clearer audio.
Limitations When Using Third-Party Streaming Software
If you opt for a third-party solution, it’s important to note that these tools do not integrate with the live streaming controls built into the Auctions Live Scriber Panel. Features such as muting, pausing, or managing the stream from within the platform will not function as they do with our native mobile broadcaster.
For example, if audio needs to be muted during an auction, this must be handled directly through the third-party software interface - not from within Auctions Live. The system will treat the stream as an external input only, with no control over its playback or volume.
This limitation is worth considering if you need full, in-platform control during live events.
Key Considerations and Limitations
- Auctions Live does not provide technical support for fixed camera setups or external software.
- Your agency is fully responsible for the reliability, quality, and audio of the stream.
- Consulting an AV technician is strongly recommended if you're new to livestream production.
A Simpler, Supported Alternative
If you'd prefer a more straightforward solution, the Auctions Live mobile broadcaster app is your best option. It’s fully supported, easy to operate, and doesn’t require additional equipment or technical knowledge. Designed specifically for real estate auctions, it provides a smooth, dependable streaming experience right from a mobile device.
