10 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Real Estate Auction Platform
01 / PREPARE AND PARTICIPATE
Questions to ask an auction software provider
1. Which auction formats can we run?
Name the formats your agency uses: Onsite, Multi-Lot / In-Room, Virtual, Timed or Stream Only. Ask the provider to show each one you need. For live events, confirm whether buyers can watch, bid online or do both.
2. How do listings reach the platform?
Ask which details import from your CRM, how changes reach the auction listing and what staff enter themselves. Use a sample property to follow the steps from import to publishing.
3. How do bidders register and get approved?
Test the bidder registration process on a mobile phone, then review how it appears from the agency side. Check how bidders are approved, how staff can identify pending registrations and how easily the team can add someone who registers in person.
4. Can buyers take part through our website?
Ask to see the property page, registration link and auction experience under your agency brand. Confirm who connects the property auction platform to your website and what your web developer needs to do.
5. How does the auctioneer manage online bids?
Run a practice auction with bids coming from both the room and online. Check who manages the auction controls, how the auctioneer is alerted to new online bids and how remote bidders can clearly see when their bid has been accepted.
02 / DELIVER AND FOLLOW UP
Check the event, records and service
6. What will remote buyers see and hear?
Test the bidder livestream using the venue’s internet connection. Check the picture quality, sound and latency - the delay between what happens in the auction room and what online viewers see. If the public website uses a different streaming setup, test that viewing experience separately as well.
7. How do we prepare an in-room presentation?
For Multi-Lot events, ask the team to change the property order and update a listing during the demo. View the presentation from the back of the room to check readability, then review how branded templates and live bidding information are displayed to the audience.
8. What can staff retrieve after the auction?
Find the result, bidder records and bid history for a completed sample auction. Ask how to export the records, retrieve a recording and check its download quality. Show how the completed auction and replay appear on your website.
9. What training and auction-day support are available?
Confirm who trains administrators, auctioneers and operators. Ask when support is available for your auction schedule, how staff contact the team and what to do if the venue connection drops.
10. What does our quoted package include?
Request a quote for your offices, users, auction volume and formats. Confirm setup, ongoing and campaign charges, plus any equipment or operator services. Ask about the contract term and how changes to your package are handled.
03 / TRY THE TASKS
Turn the demo into a clear decision
When comparing auction software for real estate agents, choose three tasks your team must be able to complete. For example: approve an online bidder, accept a practice bid and export the bid history. Let the staff who will use the auction management software try those tasks.
- Ready to use Your staff completed the task.
- Needs a follow-up Arrange another demo or confirm the setup.
- Does not meet the need The provider confirms it cannot do the task.
A feature you have not seen yet needs a follow-up. Once the key tasks work and the package is clear, agree on training and a rehearsal before the first auction.
